Marinas & Harbors
Alabama's primary sailing areas are Mobile Bay, the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, and the Gulf Coast near Gulf Shores/Orange Beach. Here are some of the better options for sailboats:
- Dauphin Island Marina (Dauphin Island) — Full-service marina with wet and dry slips, fuel (gas & diesel), boat storage, restrooms/showers, and on-site charters. Good access to Mobile Bay and the Gulf. Popular jumping-off point for coastal cruising.
- Dog River Marina (Mobile) — Full-service marina on Dog River with slips, repairs, haul-out, and fuel. Convenient to downtown Mobile and the bay.
- Orange Beach Marina (Orange Beach) — Large, protected marina with covered and open slips, fuel, and excellent amenities. Direct access to Perdido Pass and the Gulf.
- Legendary Marina & Yacht Club (Gulf Shores) — Newer facility on the Intracoastal Waterway with modern slips and dry storage. Close to beaches and Gulf access.
- Snag-A-Slip and Dockwa — Good resources for transient reservations at many Alabama marinas.
Many marinas in the area cater more to powerboats; call ahead to confirm sailboat-friendly services (mast stepping, etc.).
